SASA2025Conference
Next Annual Congress 2025
SASA Annual Congress 2025
SASA 30th Annual Congress 2025
Dates: 23rd to 26th June 2025
Venue: University of Mpumalanga
Theme: “Colonial Legacies, Postcolonial Realities: South Africa, 30 Years Later.”
This conference commemorates South Africa’s 30 years of democracy by critically examining the enduring impacts of colonialism and apartheid on the nation’s socio-economic, political, and cultural landscape. The conference theme invites a reflective interrogation of how historical injustices continue to shape contemporary realities, from structural inequalities and policy implementation to identity formation and cultural expressions. We invite papers that explore the intersections of history, identity, governance, and development in South Africa's journey over the past three decades. Contributions may address themes such as nationalism, ethnicity and other collective identities, decolonisation and the Africanisation of knowledge systems, post-apartheid socio-economic transformations, land reform, cultural resistance, migration, gender equity, and the challenges of reconciliation and nation-building. Submissions that offer comparative perspectives with other postcolonial contexts are also welcome.
Submissions are encouraged in these themes or others organized in our SASA working group, listed at https://sociology.africa/annual-conference/sasa-working-groups
