SASA Tribute to Dr Holland-Muter
The South African Sociological Association (SASA) is devastated to learn about the sad passing of Dr Susan Holland-Muter. Dr Holland-Muter a part of our fraternity, was a lecturer at the University of the Western Cape and an active member of SASA. As a feminist and activist scholar, her research provided crucial insights into the lived realities of the lesbian queer world. Her research focused on understanding the different modes of resistance and alternatives that emanated from challenging hegemonic identities and dominant narratives to (re)shape identities and notions of belonging. Her activism and scholarship were dedicated to advancing the rights of the LGBTQIA + community, promoting inclusivity and developing targeted approaches to combat violence against the LGBTQIA+ community. She is fondly remembered by her friends, colleagues and students for her care, the supportive spaces she created for those in need and her infectious smile. She will be sorely missed and always remembered by her family, friends and colleagues.
SASA extends deepest condolences to her family, friends, and students. May her soul rest in power!!!!
