Notice to the South African Sociological Association on the heartbreaking news of the passing of Dr Sheila Manka:
The South African Sociological Association Council has learned with great shock and heartbreak on the recent passing of Dr Sheila Manka this past week. Dr Manka was a committed, passionate, and dedicated member of the South African Sociological Association who made a great impact not only within scholarship but also on the lives of countless colleagues and students. Dr Sheila over the past few years led a great and welcomed initiative that saw to the establishment of a “Rural Sociology, Agriculture and Food” working group within the South Africa Sociological Association (SASA) - which has made tremendous strides and growth over the past few years with her hard work and dedication. She will be remembered for her generosity in feedback, her bright smile and warmth as a grounded intellectual by some of the students whom she mentored within SASA. We cherish and will always admire the dedication she invested into Sociology in Southern Africa and beyond.
The South African Sociological Association extends its sincerest condolences to the Manka family, University of Mpumalanga and North-West colleagues and friends for the loss of such a profound woman.
May her soul rest in power and peace. Hamba Kahle Mam’Sheila!
