The Passing of Prof Ntokozo Mthembu

Dear South African Sociological Association Members and Community,

It is with deep sadness that we inform SASA members and the broader

academic community of the passing of Professor Ntokozo Mthembu. Prof

Mthembu was working in the Department of Sociology at UNISA, where he

obtained his doctorate. Before that he was with the Centre for Civil Society at

the University of KwaZulu-Natal. He was a member of the SASA council of

2018-2019. During his term of office, he championed the formation of a

working group on African Languages, Indigenisation and Knowledge Systems,

which he became convener of. Mthembu was a passionate Afrocentric scholar

who dedicated his scholarship to advancing the interests of the African

continent. He made his mark and left a legacy that we must build upon. His

participation and contribution will be sorely missed. He will be remembered

always by his colleagues, family and friends.

    Ulale ngoxolo Mvelase!

    Warm regards,

    SASA Exec and Council
